On the other slope of Monte da Esperança the owners have a modern Historical Pousada with 24 rooms and a restaurant, rebuilded from a XIII century Franciscan monastery.
The nearest small town, Belmonte, at 4 Km, (pharmacy, doctor, supermarket) is as ancient as Portugal, with a castle built on the rockiest face of the mount. Leaving Belmonte turning right to Colmeal da Torre is the Centum Cellas roman archaeological station, an old roman town from the first century AC, a community dedicated to farming and mining. Pedro Alvares Cabral, the discoverer of Brasil was born in Belmonte.
Within 60 miles there are a lot of ancient castles and historic villages like Sortelha, Castelo Novo, Linhares, Sabugal, Almeida, etc. Covilhã has a modern hospital with a local airport. River beach at 7 Km. VTT or tours in jeeps. Organized tours, Tennis, horse riding, balloon, 4x4 circuits, Kart, Canoeing, escalate and paintball can be available on request. Trout, hare in the rice on iron pot, kid stew or roast kid, grilled dry cod fish are the main traditional dishes. | | Directions | The house is 1km from the main road between Belmonte and Caria (Km 6,4 E.M. 345). The drive is steep, but the road is macadamised. 18 km from Covilhã. 24 Km from Guarda.
From Lisbon 290 Km all on Highways, A1 leaving way out 8 and A23 way out 32 to Caria . Then road 345 (Caria �Belmonte) 700 m after crossing railway, turn left on a green plate Casa da Chandeirinha
From Porto 200 Km A1 leaving way out to Viseu Guarda and Spain then IP5 till Guarda and A23 way out 33 to Belmonte. Then E.N.18 and left to Belmonte, then road 345 (Caria �Belmonte) and turn right at KM6,4 on a green plate Casa da Chandeirinha. |
