Located in the most attractive part of Veliko Turnovo, The Loft Hostel offers an amazing view of the city’s old town as well as the modern center, and is a 3-minute walk from all of the best bars and clubs in town. The hostel is perfectly situated overlooking the lively main street and is filled with character as the entrance is located on a charming cobblestone pedestrian path at the beginning of the old the crafts street, where you can find local artisans working using traditional techniques to produce Bulgaria crafts.
The Loft is set-up perfectly allowing you the opportunity to meet fellow travelers from all over the world. We offer 6 and 8-bed dorm rooms, as well as private double rooms. There is a spacious common room where you can relax and drink a beer or two, watch TV, listen to music or chat with new friends, as well as a sunny fully-equipped kitchen at your disposal and clean bright bathrooms.

| Samovodska Charshiya (old town crafts street) - the most popular street in all of Veliko Turnovo, located in the city center. | | Directions | ** Note: Taxis in Veliko Turnovo are generally cheap and reliable. The best recommended taxi services are Alex OK and Inter Taxi. You can find taxis at all of the stations. Make sure the taxi meter is running and that there is a sticker in the window with the price per kilometer.
Tell the taxi driver to take you to Stratilat (stra-tee-lot) at the Samovodska Charshiya
(samo-vod-ska char-shee-ya). This is the cafe at the beginning of the crafts street. Exit the taxi and continue up the small stairs to the left of the cafe. You will see the hostel after 20 meters.
From the southern bust station (avtogara yug):
Walking: (The hostel is about a 10-15 minute walk from this station) As you exit the bus station, turn left on the main street. Continue about 5 minutes up the road. At that point you will see the Tourist Information Center on the right-hand side. Continue pass the Tourist Information Center (DO NOT TURN RIGHT DIRECTLY AFTER THE TOURIST INFORMATION CENTER) and when the street seems to end and veer to the right, continue to the right. You should see the post office on the corner. Continue along the main street about 7 minutes. On the left-hand side you will see the beginning of a cobblestone road that veers to the left. This is the beginning of the old town’s craft street. Continue along this street about 20 meters. At the beginning of this street where you see a cafe (it is called Stratilat) you will see a small set of winding stairs on the left. Walk up these stairs. After 20 meters you will see the hostel on your left.
From the western bust station (avtogara zapad):
Walking: Walking is not recommended because it is far. It will take you about 40 minutes. But, if you are up for the journey, turn left along the main street when you exit the bus station. Continue along the main street about 20 minutes. You will pass a supermarket and an open-air vegetable market. Keep along the same main street another 15- 20 minutes. You will pass a monument in a small park on your left. You will continue along the same street the entire way. Eventually, you will pass a bar on your left called Pepy’s Bar, situated at the corner of a parking lot, above clothing shops. Continue past this another 5 minutes. Eventually, on the left-hand side you will see the beginning of a cobblestone road that veers to the left. This is the beginning of the old town’s craft street. Continue along this street about 30 meters. At the beginning of this street where you see a cafe (it is called Stratilat) you will see a small set of winding stairs on the left. Walk up these stairs. After 20 meters you will see the hostel on your left.
Public transportation: Take bus number 10. It will travel towards the city center. Exit the bus at the stop across from a restaurant When you exit the bus turn right and continue about 50 meters to the beginning of the old town (a cobblestone street) on the left. This is the beginning of the old town’s craft street. Continue along the cobblestone street about 30 meters. At the beginning of this street where you see a cafe (it is called Stratilat) you will see a small set of winding stairs on the left. Walk up these stairs. After 20 meters you will see the hostel on your left.
From the Veliko Turnovo train station:
Walking: Walking will take you about 25 - 30 minutes. Turn left outside of the station. Continue along the road about 10 minutes. You will eventually reach a split in the road. Keep to the left towards the museum and monument. When you reach the museum you will see a bridge that crosses that river below. Cross this bridge and continue up the street past a large hotel. Keep to the right when the road splits, and you will see the Tourist Information Center on your right. Turn right at the Tourist Information Center and continue along the main road where most of the traffic is going. After about 50 meters, when the street seems to end and veer to the right, continue to the right. You should see the post office on the corner. Continue along the main street about 7 minutes. On the left-hand side you will see the beginning of a cobblestone road that veers to the left. This is the beginning of the old town’s craft street. Continue along this street about 30 meters. At the beginning of this street where you see a cafe (it is called Stratilat) you will see a small set of winding stairs on the left. Walk up these stairs. After 20 meters you will see the hostel on your left.
Public transportation:
Catch bus number 5, 4, 13, 30 or 70 towards the town center. Exit the bus at the stop at a restaurant on the right with orange awnings named Shastlivetsa. This is on the main street. Continue up the main street about 50 meters to the beginning of the old town (a cobblestone street) on the left. This is the beginning of the old town’s craft street. Cross the main street. Continue along the cobblestone street about 30 meters. At the beginning of this street where you see a cafe (it is called Stratilat) you will see a small set of winding stairs on the left. Walk up these stairs. After 20 meters you will see the hostel on your left.
The price of the bus ticket is 1.60 Levs. A taxi (not recommended though) from Gorna Oriahovitsa will cost you around 8 Levs.
From the Gorna Oryahovitsa train station:
Walking: Don’t try it, it’s too far!! Gorna Oryahovitsa is the next city over from Veliko Turnovo, and the main train station for central Bulgaria is located there. Most international trains leave from this station as well as trains to Sofia. There is a train station in Veliko Turnovo, yet smaller, and you can catch a train from Gorna Oryahovitsa to Veliko Turnovo, yet there are easier and quicker methods of transportation.
Public transportation: Catch local bus number 10 from the train station to Veliko Turnovo. The bus will pass through 2 small villages, and will arrive in Veliko Turnovo after about 20 minutes. The bus will turn right and enter the city center. Exit the bus at the 1st stop after it turns right in the city. You will see shops on the right hand side and restaurants and cafes on the left hand side. When you exit the bus turn right and continue about 50 meters to the beginning of the old town (a cobblestone street) on the left. This is the beginning of the old town’s craft street. Continue along the cobblestone street about 30 meters. At the beginning of this street where you see a cafe (it is called Stratilat) you will see a small set of winding stairs on the left. Walk up these stairs. After 20 meters you will see the hostel on your left.
