I took a bus to the lodge from Huaraz. It was a great trip, passing near Mt. Huascaran(the highest in Peru) and Lake LLanganuco. How good feeling to get into the nature breathing the clear and cool air!
There were no taxi there. People were looking at me curiously as I went through the village to the lodge. No other tourists could be seen. It was a lodge in a small village in the great nature. That's what I wanted. Being free from the noisy town, there was the andean life surrounded by the beautiful snow-white mountains. The owner of the lodge was a great Peruvian guy. He spoke Spanish and English. He gave me a great welcome, showing inside the lodge. My room was very clean with hot comfortable shower and the most comfortable bed in Peru. I could see the beautiful mountains from the big window in my room. The roof was excellent! I had a breakfast on the roof viewing the mountains, feeling the warm sun. I walked through the village during the day. Everything around me caught my eyes. Looking up the high trees, watching the horses, pigs, donkees, chickens and some birds swimimg in the stream, I could see the quiet andean life. I had some beer and wine with the owner at night. It was a unforgetable experience. I'm sure to get there again someday.

"A great place to stay!"

I stayed at the Andes Lodge Peru in February this year and had a great time. Although it is set in a very traditional Andean town it has proper orthopedic mattresses, down duvets, 24 hour hot water showers (hot, not tepid!) and a great roof top terrace with fantastic views of the mountains.

I went with friends, all of whom enjoyed their stay. The guy managing the place is a young Peruvian guy who is very friendly and is from Yanama so knows all the good places to walk, climb and bike. We went on a couple of day treks to some nearby lakes and also to the ruins above the village.

He also helped us to arrange transport from Huaraz to Yanama which took us through the National Park so we got to see all the beautiful lakes and mountains from the taxi. Because the village is small the hotel do a meal package and the food was really good - a mixture of typical Peruvian dishes (we tried Pachamanca and cuy!) and some international stuff like pizza which they cooked in their mud oven.

The village is very untouristed which is one of the things that made it so interesting - we got to see how people really live rather than being constantly asked if we wanted to buy something as happened in many other places we visited in Peru. Although we didn´t go there, it´s really close to the National Park so it´s easy to do some of the well-known treks such as Santa Cruz.
