For those tired of copycat big hotels with lookalike rooms and impersonal lobbies the Jamiat provides a refreshing alternative. It's right downtown. The location at first is a bit disorienting: housed on the second floor of a busy market center-Nairobi style, you have to persevere in order to find the entrance to the hotel. But once found you're in for a pleaant surprise. The lobby is small but elegant. Rooms are spacious, comfiortable, cute in their way, ultra clean, internet is available, and service is excellent. There is no elevator, so you have to be able to walk up the two staircases. A few restaurants downstairs in the market will provide for inexpensive lunch; else you can go eat in the business district, right outside the door. All in all, very positive experience for a budget mnded business traveler.

I spent a few nights at this hotel earlier this year. The night before I left an expensive laptop was stolen from my room. The hotel manager assured me that the hotel was insured for theft and that I would be compensated for the laptop. However, when I left the country they renegged on their promise and now refuse to compensate me for the stolen property. I suspect hotel staff were involved in the theft.
